Microsoft has partnered with CBS, MTV, TBS, UFC, NASCAR and Warner Bros. to make content available via download off of the XBLM [Xbox Live Marketplace], over 1000 hours of content by the end of the year!

This is kind of a big deal. Microsoft has all of a sudden emerged as being the first to market to offer HDTV downloads. Not only that, but they've already got the distribution to launch something like this (Xbox Live is in millions of households around the world).
This service is launching with over 1,000 hours of downloadable content by the end of the year.
All downloads will cost 'points' and a ton of disc space on your hard drive. Rumors are flying that an average movie will cost the equivalent of $3-4 dollars (rivaling DVD rental stores) and shows will cost ~$2.
The
official Xbox.com page about the TV/Movie downloads shows a few networks/movie studios have already signed on including:
- MTV: “The Real World” and “Pimp My Ride”
- Spike: “Carpocalypse” and “Raising the Roofs”
- Comedy Central: “South Park” and “Chappelle’s Show”
- CBS: “CSI,” “Survivor” and “Star Trek”
- Warner Brothers: “The Matrix,” “Superman Returns” and “Batman Forever”
- Paramount: “M:i:III,” Nacho Libre” and “Jackass: The Movie”
- Warner Bros.: “Studio 60,” “Friends” and “West Wing”
