Extenal HD as 360 HD

Has any one ever used an External Hard Drive for a computer and plugged it into the 360 and been able to store music or game files on it.

I don't know anything about Xbox, but I am sure people have, and if it doesn't work its because Microsoft put a block on it so people buy the actual HDs off them.

Yeah MS has some proprietary mumbo jumbo on the HD. I just did by the 120 gb HD a couple of days ago and my system seems to be moving a good bit faster. COuld be me tho but it does seem to load games much faster etc...

The 360's internal harddrive is a newer version of the FATX filesystem (slightly different than the original XBox). The 360 supports both HFS+ and FAT32, but I don't know how usable the external harddrive is on the 360 as far as storage of movies and music. You'll want to format it HFS+ if you'll be storing HD movies on it, otherwise they wouldn't fit with FAT32. You can use some software for Windows called MacDrive. I use it and it works flawlessly.

You can't use a external hard drive as the 360 main drive. You can play music and stuff already on it (at least most music and videos...it doesn't support all codecs) You have to buy a microsoft 360 drive to use it as your main drive

Yeah, you need a dev unit to make an external harddrive useful.
