RROD (Red Ring of Death) 2

The month of August has killed both of my xboxes....sitting here looking at the rrod, praying that my homey down at gamestop will take care of me since my service plan ran out about 3 months ago. If not Ill have to do the AS5 fix and hope it works. Seen this coming for a few weeks, it rrod once yesterday but was fine the rest of the day and I played madden this am for a couple hours, then blammo. Grrr annoying.

Are you getting the AS5 kit? I mean with the replacement screws and all?

If the service plan from the store ran out and you haven't modded your consoles M$ will repair them. But you have to contact them directly.

Most probably, they will just give you a new one(s) with the new motherboards and heatsinks. Save yourself all the trouble.

However, if you have no warranty whatsoever you can go ahead and apply the fix.

Well I cracked it open a few months ago so the warranty is void, and Im not in the mood for a few week turnaround when its something I can fix in an hour. So far its been working fine today after the initial rrod. Just a matter oftime before it becomes permanent tho

Thats probably why mine lasted 1.5 years I went stretches where it wasn't turned on for weeks at a time, but lately I've been playing the hell out of it. Wouldn't have anything to do with economy going south and i cant afford to do anything else would it???

Ok so my box started doing the rrod dance on Saturday. Did a bit of off/on routines and it started working fine until yesterday evening in which case the rrod became permanent. So after much google, I broke my 360 down pulled out the mobo yanked out the heatsinks and cleaned and replaced the thermal gunk. I put the box back otgether and I might add that putting the heatsink clamps back on is a pita compared to taking them off. Anway, got it back together and bada boom! still rrod

. So I tried a quick towel method to get the solder joints back in place and so far it has worked. My 360 has been working fine for 24 hours. Should it rrod again Ill do the washer fix. Oddly enough after I got it going again I noticed that my fans were MUCH louder and were pulling a ton more air. I saw no obstructions in the fan on disassembly but can only conclude that they were not installed correctly from the mfg. My 360 stays very cool now compared to previously. If anything changes Ill post more.

Microsoft fails. I don't know how they didn't see this coming. I mean honestly. Good thing it works for now, but I don't count on it running for much longer. Sorry to say, you're probably gonna have to get a new one soon

It's kinda neat though that you can reverse engineer it to work, lol.
