oh and a new system bundle

    Gametrailers.com - Xbox 360 - E3 2007 MS Press Conference Halo 3 Xbox 360

Launches worldwide in September, alongside a slew of Halo 3 accessories. This announcement was prefaced by an awesome live action/CGI short movie from Bungie, WETA and Neil Blonkamp.

    Micrososft's E3 press release:

    10. A pretty amazing spectacle in a huge outdoor amphitheater. It was a full TV Production.
    9. The show returned to the E3 of old. Numbers were throw around to help retailer allocate shelf space, I think Microsoft made their point.
    8. It was all about the games. Microsoft reiterated it at every chance they could.
    7. Games for Windows Live might actually be shaping up.
    6. Like #7, having GFWL built INTO the Unreal 3 Engine is huge. Especially since Epic was one of their biggest detractors.
    5. Cliffy B during the Gears of War demo said "Coming to Vista and XP this fall". Could GFWLive be coming to XP as well?
    4. Cliffy B is much shorter than other Microsoft Execs.
    3. The Halo live action short was ****ing incredible. It was gritty, edgy and looked gorgeous. If that doesn't get the Halo movie made, nothing will.
    2. Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed look absolutely phenomenal. Anything you've seen on the internet does neither of these games justice.
    1. Nothing as the standout. No "big" announcement. But a solid press event overall. The audience seemed happy.
I especially like the Gears of War coming to Vista

Games for Windows Live is stupid. There is no way I will be paying to get features that are already available for free.

Oh, I can play games on my PC with people using Xbox 360s? Who cares?

Why would that matter? I don't have one either.

Playing games cross-platform is cool, and might be worth paying a subscription for, but GFW Live places tons of restrictions on games choosing to use it. As in, if a game uses Live, they can't use they're own in-game VoIP, so anybody (me) refusing to pay for Live isn't allowed to talk. Unless that changes, or has changed and I've not read about it, GFW Live sucks.

Yeah, it would force you to do that. And then you wouldn't be able to just join a game and communicate.

As far as I know, the Live licensing does not allow game developers to include VoIP at all.

Turns out I was wrong, thank God.

GFW Live: Worth Gamers' Money and Devs' Support? news from 1UP.com

They say Live simply adds an 'option' but developers can still include whatever they want. Still seems sketchy though with mixing in achievements with existing award systems, but who knows.

If Live will simply be connecting PC games with Xbox 360 games it will be great. Hopefully they don't try to take it further.
