Get ready for it. I suspect retail prices will go to at least $69.99+Tax. I think both Sony and MS have said that games are going up.

I think back in the early 90s, the new final fantasy games were at least 49.99, and possible 59.99 upon release. That's at least $78 in today's money.

Of course, they were worth it...

I'm guessing they will go with the console subsidised if you agree to sign up to 2 years Gold membership. Which given the absolute need for a gold account to access anything worthy is a bit of a no brainer.

But yes Console Game prices are somewhat unpalatable here keeping in mind we pay up to 50-60 ($70-$90?) for a triple A title. That is a definite motivator to pick up any but the exclusive titles on PC first for 30.
This along with things like the Oculus rift coming out for the PC means I think gaming will swing back that way for this generation.
But I guess the Console guys know this and its why they are hedging their bets with the all round entertainment angle.

the price was 49.99 pretty much for like 20 years (NES, SNES, SEGA Genesis, N64, Playstation, Xbox, PS2) it wasn't until the last generation of consoles came out that we saw 59.99 games (and the new DLC craze which just screams "GIVE US YOUR MONEY)

    Intel i7 920 2.67Ghz - GeForce GTX 670 - ASUS Sabertooth X58 Mobo - CORSAIR DDR3 6GB RAM - Antec 900 Case - Antec EarthWatts EA750 750W PS - Razer Mamba/Anasi

Yup - and you knew the cost was justified as you were about to play an epic game for a seriously long time.

Just like the Xbox 360 gave people their first opportunity to see “content” delivered at 720p resolution, the Xbox One is opening the door to 4K displays. The new console is capable of outputting both 3D and 4K material, although it’s unlikely any big-budget games will support it, what with the immense strain that sort of resolution would place on the hardware. Microsoft says the ultra-HD format will be used for “video and interface portions” initially. [Forbes]

Well, with both the XBox1 and PS4 pledging 4KTV support, both having 8-core AMD CPUs, both using AMD gfx, both having 8gm RAM and both using Blu-ray... it looks like software's the only real difference here.
