WoW tops 10 Million Subscribers

"It's very gratifying to see gamers around the world continuing to show such enthusiasm and support for World of Warcraft," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We're always pleased to welcome new players to the game, and we're looking forward to sharing the next major content update with the entire community in the months ahead."

The company counts more than 2 million subscribers in Europe, more than 2.5 million in North America, and about 5.5 million in Asia. Blizzard said it includes as subscribers not only active, long-term members but also prepaid subscription cardholders and players who recently bought the game and are within their first free month of service.

Wow, that's a lot of people playing one game. I wonder what the difference is if you don't count currently active players.

Actually you'd be suprized about the amount of adults that I know that play WoW... and even have multiple 70's

There are few adults but very few. I went back to EQ where the average age is probably 35+. WoW does some goodthings with the genre though just not enough of them to keep me interested.

I could never be held down by WoW, for all its diversity it lacks an edge to keep you interested in for long periods of time. The only reason to play for long stretches is "to just ge tto that next level", "get that next piece of gear", "get that next *insert random noun here*".
I find most people who play WoW for long periods use one the excuses above to explain why the majority of their WoW time is spent in boredom awaiting a few minutes of fun a day, or a few hours a week (for the raiding players).

It isn't hard to play WoW in short bites in between other games, it's actually more fun, and I just wish other WoW players realized that...
