Hello, and welcome to our little corner of the internet. What games are you playing and what are you playing them on?

Thanks, guys! I'm more of a console guy, PS2, PS4, leaning towards Sony here, though I'm not afraid to widen my horizon when it comes to PC games as well. Currently saving up for a rig, can't seem to buy a GPU yet, high prices due to the bitcoin craze. Thanks for the warm welcome!

Buy a pre- built rig with whatever GPU you want and avoid the bitcoin gouging.

Hard to avoid bitcoin gouging there are very few GPUs that will work for even a modest gaming rig that aren't priced out of the stratosphere. Nvidia even tried to address that with headless (no monitor output) video cards for folders.

OEMs like HP still get them at their normal cost. You can even spec out a basic PC with a 1080gtx, swap in a cheaper last gen gpu, sell off the PC, and end up with a 1080gtx for $200. I've run the numbers. This is doable.

    Re: Hello, everyone!

But that 1080GTX may end up being a HP/Dell/Lenovo/Acer special part with one single noisy blower fan, requiring you do even more work by installing an after market cooler. For some people the extra work is the deal breaker. The more work you have to do the less likely you are to actually do it especially if you don't have enough free time as it is. If you have the free time then you can work out that type of deal.

FWIW I've heard that asking a manager in a MicroCenter about their video cards and mentioning you are a gamer sometimes works at getting you a preferential price on GPUs and a notification when a model you are interested is in stock. especially if you have bought stuff there before.
