CDs as Reccomended by Dave

Sunlight Square

The CD just arrived through the post today and I'm certainly impressed.

It's basically a Jazz-Electronica fusion. Very relaxing chill-out album with one of my heroes Steve Gadd behind the kit.

This CD is a masterpeice to say the least. The living legend that is Steve Gadd lays down a particularly funky drum lick on "Ab Three". If you liked the songs on the MySpace or the website then you'd definately like the album.

Liquid Tension Experiment

Basically the band members of Dream Theatre with a different bassist and no vocals. (Tony Levin, John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy, Jordan Rudess).

CD arrived in the post about 3 days ago (LTE1) and again, I'm amazed. check them out at their MySpace or their website.

Prog-metal instrumentalists at their best. I particularly like Mike Portnoy's take on the classic Jeff Porcaro (Toto)/Bernard Purdie half time shuffle beat on "Chris and Kevin's Excellent Adventure"

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Bought Stadium Arcadium today, I've only listened to the Jupiter CD so far but I can safely say it's worth the buy. There's some nice funky tracks on here. I wouldn't say it's up to the standard of Blood Sugar Sex Magik but it's still a very good album. I'd reccomend.

IQ

This is one of my drum teacher's bands. They're no small time deal either they're one of the biggest UK progressive rock bands around amongst die hard prog fans.

I currently own the Subterranea and Seventh House albums and both have to be in my top10 favourite albums list.

Subterranea is a concept album that was released sometime in 1997. It's a 2 disc set, of which both CDs are immense.

IQ are doing a European Tour sometime later this year which if money and time permits I will definately be going to.

If you like IQ or progressive rock in general, you should definately check out these:
I don't have any albums by these guys yet but as soon as the money is available they'll be making their way into my collection.

Tinyfish
These guys got in touch with me over MySpace just talking about drum stuff in general and I had a listen to their music, it's good stuff!

Neo
Another of my drum teacher's bands, they do covers of famous prog acts such as IQ, Arena, Jadis, PenDragon, Pallas etc.
MySpace
Website to be announced.

Frost (highly reccomended)
Another of my drum teacher's bands. Their music is epic to say the least. Have a listen to Black Light Machine on their MySpace, I'd honestly be surprised if you didn't like it. CD to be released in June sometime in the shops (UK at least).
MySpace
BlogSpot
No website (yet?)

Jadis
A cult-prog-rock band from the UK. Brilliant music.

Website

There's some great videos showing Jadis in action on the website.

Let me know what you think.
