| | Oh noes! plants use C02!....and...somehow these shrubs are taking over grasslands because there's more C02 out... in the middle of nowhere? Dang those Cows! they're causing their own demise!
I'm surprised that LA isn't overrun with shrubberies.

| | | figured out what I want. wxga+ in a 17" lappy. 1440×900. I have a monitor here at work that does 1600x1200. I used dualview on my current notebook and dragged visual studio over to it. The font was so small it was illegible. Do people really use even higher res? how?
anyway, I tried a 1400x mode and it was a good balance between readability and extra space. (for instance, I can leave open my context menus on both sides of the IDE and still have a full page in the center to type code). seems ideal to me.
So the real trick is now finding a high quality LCD in an affordable 17" notebook that's just wxga+. They seem to be all WSXGA+ or more which starts at 1680×1050. makes everything too small
17" glossy lcd notebook with wxga or wxga+, please

| | | i run 1680 on my 17" glossy, it's actually just right for me, i run studio windowed, great to also have some other programs running behind it and still viewable.
on the cheaper side, you have the toshiba p205-S6307 with 17" glossy WXGA. not bad at $984.00. dual core.
Asus has the A7t-A1 17" glossy wxga, but it's AMD x2, at $1249.00. (i run the x2 on my 17")
going even cheaper with the Acer AS9300-5415 at $874, also amd x2.
you can still pick up the core duo Asus w2jb, the prettiest 17" wxga laptop ever, for $1200. a little "underpowered" by today's standard, but sick looking.

| | | pretty good deal, Vega. although the 6-cell on a 17" with the 8400 will get you roughly 9 minutes on battery, I assume you'll be plugged in 95% of the time.
for $1500, check out the Asus A7s-A1, it's a hell of a system at that price.

| | | well, it's rare for a 17" to get more than 3 hours on battery anyway, but that's with an 8 cell. most 6-cells on a 17" might get you 2 hours, max.
if it's a business purchase, grab an extra battery!
