Friend at work is buying a laptop and wants to play CS:S & HL2. Question is, he's on a tight budget and what we're seeing is the ATI Radeon XPress 200M video (up to 256meg shared). The laptop has 1gig of DDR2 and an intel Core 2 duo. Obviously he's not going to max the settings out, but does anyone know if it'll run smooth enough to be playable?
Everything I can find says it will run okay, but the effects will be teh suck. He might have to force it to run at DX8 to increase the frames. If it's one of those 1900x1200 resolution only notebooks, then forget about it. If it's like 1024x768 native, it should be ok

x200m is the integrated video, sharing the RAM is never good. It's not a bad integrated solution, and it'll play CS:S at lowest setting, but not very well.
I would suggest an older model with an X700 video card, maybe even go used to get it.
I'd much rather piece together a tower, but he has it in his head he wants a notebook so there you go. I have a feeling he'll get that one with the Radeon and be testing out the return policy.
