Ruckus Free Music for college students and Legal !!!!

Ruckus - Over 2.5 Million tracks of Free Music for college students! yeah i've been using Ruckus for about a year and have downloaded well over 8,000 songs its only free if you use your personal college email address for ex (cmh294@email.vccs.edu is mine)so pretty much if you're a college student you can do this for free but you can only listen to the free songs on your computer and if you want to burn them or transfer them you have to pay in which im not for sure how much but i think its like $20 a semester (unlimited downloads) maybe cheaper i don't know but im just using the free version. The player sucks bad because it has ads and a bunch of crap on it. And after you download the music they only last for one month then you have to renew the license (which is no big you just select all then right click and select renew license) and even if you forget the music won't be deleted from your computer it just won't play. so i just use media monkey to listen to them So just letting those who don't know about this know. Its an alternative for me besides limewire ect but if i want to burn, transfer to my zune or just keep the song i'll just use my "Other Software" but for just listening to music on my laptop when im on the go or want to burn time this iis perfect for me

well they took a poll and they found out that 97% of college students use some kind of file sharing program to download music so they developed ruckus to try to help prevent illegal downloads this was a beta then it went live....I'am not 100% sure how it all worked out but i got an email from my college (blue ridge community college) that mentioned to try ruckus.....and it was an official email because i asked if it was really from the college and they said it was. But the only way it works is if you have a college email account as far as i know. I not for sure if you can use it if you don't have a college email account of some sort.

i use ruckus occasionally. what sucks is that a lot of songs arent licensed by artists, so you really cant get everythibng you want. it also sucks that you cannot burn or transfer any of the songs. good though if you just listen at your computer

As for legal concerns, it is ad-supported and encrypted with DRM. It is licensed content, so it is completely legal.

The "catch" is that the music is protected with DRM. Most likely when you graduate or lose access to your college email account you will no longer be able to update your music licenses and the downloaded tracks will no longer play. Circumventing the DRM would make it illegal.
