It's surprising it took this long... the democrats are politicizing the wildfires. Harry Reid is blaiming it on global warming, Barbara Boxer and California's lieutenant governor are crying that the national guard and their equipment is all in Iraq instead of stopping the fires. Psst... morons...
a) there have been centuries of fires. This is not new
b) Only 8% of the guard is in Iraq.

the +1 degree of warming over the past century has turned trees into explosive sticks of dynamite. duh.

maybe it's the decades of environmentalists who cry about "old growth" forests, even though nature DESPISES old growth and burns it at every opportunity. So, we artificially preserve these powderkegs, and are all surprised to see them eventually ignite.

Rofl, yes... my children knownly and actively get involved in politics and they're not even 10 yet! they gave up one of their outrageous weekly allowances to help with a cause that they believe in! because they KNOW what they believe! We had nothing to do with it. it was THEIR money for...their... hard work... and stuff... and..... things.

Something tells me that some dem figured out a neat way to get around some laws about giving money to campaigns.... by using your children.

Why environmentalists confuse me. The don't want us to cut down trees. Period. Even the dead and diseased ones....which make it so that massive wild fires can occur.

Remember the big fire off of I-80 on the border of CA and NV?... yeah, old diseased and dead trees that were not cut down. Dont remember how it started, but that was one massive fire (don't think it did much property damage though). When I was in school in CA the amount of forest that was burned that you could see from the freeway was pretty amazing.

The national forest rangers have a clue... they now understand that stopping forest fires and not clearing is dangerous. The days of the fire watch towers are over. They're now trying to get the forests back to a natural condition. This will involve clearing all the fuel from the forest floor, i.e. the dead wood. Next, they're going to thing the trees back from the unnaturally thick state they're in now back to what they were. And once those things are done, when a fire occurs, it will be smaller and just part of the natural cycle. Forest fires clean the floor of the forest, kills diseases in the brush, releases new seeds in pine trees, etc. It's the first step in the forest renewing itself.

Ooo, better example. I was at Yellow Stone a few years back. You should see the kind of growth there. You can't even tell there was one seriously huge fire there. The place is completely covered in trees.

WOW Nature can take care of itself! WHO KNEW!?!!? Wow! I thought we had to do it for nature because nature doesn't know how to do anything by itself! wow! the implications are staggering! Global Warming anybody?

Fuzzy, why don't you get a CLUE and read up on yellowstone on the internet! The russians have this device which sets up harmonics in the Earth's plates that are going to tear yellowstone apart! The resulting earthquake is going to destroy America. The new growth is just a symptom of impending doom.
