don't get to drastic now sorry a couple more questions
1 you also have a fan on the heat sink does it start running ?
2 what do you get on the screen when you try to boot ?
3 as for the video card if you have the extra power conector you should have it plugged in more than likely the system should boot still but the driver will inform you the power is missing.

edit: im confused

I came up with another idea.. can you tighten/squeeze 1/2 inch mobo screws with brass stand offs and rubber washers directly onto the mobo with rubber washers just touching the mobo on each side, bottom and top?
but... after all that you might want to make sure none of the pins under the motherboard are touching anything. the silver around the screwholes should be touching the screw and connecting all the way to the case to ground the motherboard.

When I do get it to post on screen, you get the xfx logo and stuff, then bios comes up, everything looks ok, cept it says floppy drive error (40) I don't have a floppy drive in it. It also says something about CMOS error, loading default or something like that.

I'm thinking its the PSU, or the heatsink, or both.

It shuts off randomly, when I thought I fixed the heatsink, it did run longer, but still shuts off randomly, then runs for shorter time and shuts off the 2nd time. I'm gunna hit up bestbuy, and go talk to the computer guys there and run some diagnostics on it, they should Have PSUs, and heatsinks there I can buy and change quick.. They also do repairs at bestbuy too, so I could always have them check it out.

if its shutting off randomly it might be the heatsink... the mobo knows when components are running too hot and will shut the computer off before anything gets fried...

as for the cmos... do you have a clear cmos button or jumper? try clearing the cmos and disable the floppy drive in your bios.

my friend was having similar cmos problems and it actually turned otu to be his power supply (go figure?) so ill ask him more about it

I'm gonna take the hole case, and all the components to best buy / geek squad tomorrow or this weekend, Its gotta be the heatsink for sure thou, because I didn't have it on the correct way, because I believe this heatsink was made for A AMD and not intel mobo, It did have 2 bags of brackets thou. My Mobo tray didn't have holes in it thou so I had to try anchoring it directly to the mobo.. bad idea. Thou the heatsink was sucking some heat, I think it still wasn't on correctly, not tight enough up against the CPU. I Believe the CPU, the mobo and video card is ok, sense the last time I booted it up it started ok, but still would shut off randomly. as for the cmos, yea it has a clear jumper. and it says how to do it in the book.

I also found this for anyones interest..

Yeah - if the heatsink isn't on right then it'll overheat pretty quick. -- and i'd think that "all" MB's would have a cmos jumper on it, or at least a battery that you can remove and put back in.

Good luck with BestBuy!

Got my new computer working finally.

This rig is pretty much just for gaming though.

made about a 50-60fps inprovement over my dell 4550 in call of duty 4 single player, its crazy.

CPU temp is hovering around 45c idle, and 55c at max usage.

Finally found the instructions on how to install that KA 9227 heatsink.. what a pita to find out yourself lol, unless you did it before of course..

Sadly though, CoD4 doesn't seem all it should be, I gotta get into some online games still, cya around!

And thanks those that helped me out.. I went to bestbuy and didn't bother talking to anyone too, just ended up getting cod4, and looking at the 32" hdtv I wanna get.
