What is Dropbox?

Dropbox is a desktop application (for Windows and Mac OS X) and storage service that just works. It's the easiest way to share and store files online and keep files in sync across your computers (quick video demo here).

The beta is still invite-only, but we're no longer keeping the details under wraps -- and you're welcome to invite up to 10 friends to the service (they'll be able to download Dropbox too.)

You're also welcome (and encouraged!) to blog about your impressions, post screenshots and discuss Dropbox wherever you'd like.

So, I thought this was pretty cool and wanted to share with you all. Dropbox - Home - Secure backup, sync and sharing made easy.

Here is what it looks like on your computer. The folder "testing out a test" is a folder I am sharing with my friend. I put a picture in there, and he edited it and put it back in there, and it synced up.

This is what it looks like when you log in their website.

If you click on a file, it gives you the history of that file.

And this is what the icon looks like on the almighty apple menu bar.

Can this share files remotely across the web?

What it does, as has been explained to me by my friend, is that it is a program that installs on your computer. You drop whatever files you want into it, such as photo's, and you or someone else (if you decide to share that folder) can access it.

You can share across the web. It's because the 2GB is stored on their servers, so it's really just giving you or someone else access to that space (I would guess).

yeah, just send me a PM for an invite.

The bad thing about that though, is your family would need to download the program as well. But I love that it works with windows or mac and you don't need a mac to see the stuff if the person is using windows and vice versa.
