Texas A&M University switches to Vista

This morning I headed down to the student computing center to find all the computers have been switched from their original XP OS to the Vista OS. Immediately upon seeing this I say, "Oh shit..." under my breath and try to log on. After waiting 7 minutes to log on (yes I timed it) I get an error message saying, "User could not be found". Yet it still logs in under my name. After seeing I have full access to the internet and programs I continue to find my work and print out a copy of this week's manufacturing engineering homework, however... failure. Vista informs me that the printing software and the printing device is not compatible with windows and to refer to a listing of Windows "Failware" Vista compatible printers. Again Vista has failed. I left extremly pissed off.

wtf? you'd think the university eggheads would have checked with that before taking the plunge.

lol i just noticed that. Even has that stupid dog Reveille. I hate that stupid dog even though it's our mascot. Well I just got news that the printers in another building are working just fine with the new Vista OS installed over there. Although the SCC is the one that mostly everyone uses. The one's that are working are for engineering students only so I luck out there :P.

Since some are working and some aren't, I'm going ahead and presuming it's not a Vista issue. I bet it's someone in the IT department with an ID=10t error.

these people are running universities yet couldnt even test to make sure that the switch was running properly....................

Yeah upgrading one peice of software is enough of a pain in the ass the way most universities are run when one person needs permission from a daisy chain of others to actually get access to what they need.... I cant imagine being part of the dept that runs the main backbone.

Noc here at my university is almost like non-people, there is no public contact information for them and they will not even dignify you with a response unless you are very very specific as to what you need (in regards to more bandwidth or access to various things).... and often times they go to work doing it without even letting us know they have started. Its hilarious when you stop and think about it
