| | | A Hint of What Might End the World? IEEE Spectrum: Who Killed the Virtual Case File?
It may not be the atom bombs, or an asteroid, or even running out of fossil fuels that may eventually send us back to the stoneage. It could very well be our continued and ever-heavier dependence and investment in software. The more we try to harness technology to run our lives, the more we fail at it. Until one day, what happens? A massive system crash that cannot be recovered? What would one EMP do? Suddenly you can't get food, or your medicine. Or millions of people on assisted living drop dead and the rotten flesh causes epidemic. Your bank account records are gone, so are all of your contacts, you don't know how to reach anyone, but you couldn't anyway because everything is digital. It is a sound proof room, Mr Bond, no one hears you scream
Discuss.

| | | This is why you have guns and a room full of coffee for barter, along with some gold coinage.
I mean, why you COULD have that, in theory. Not in real life in a secret concrete room in my basement.

| | Protip: Scenerios like these make for great movies, but can't happen in reality. Statistically so unlikely, you'd probably win the Mega Super Lotto every week for a decade before it did.
And that article... totally off-base with the 9-11 thing. If the author had done his homework, he'd have found that it was illegal for different law enforcement agencies to share information. This "wall" was put in place by Jamie Gorelick in the Clinton administration. Mark R. Levin on Jamie Gorelick and the Millennium Bomber on National Review Online
Software issues was not the problem.

| | | what was really sad is that the justice department couldn't put together a centralized database after spending hundreds of millions on it, while someone like frikkin Vega could have done it for like $35k a year.

| | | I was going to say that we're all goina die as the earths magnetic field is going to reverse sometime in our generation. IE, the nice field that blocks all the suns harmful radiation is going to be, for a period of time, nonexistent. the field is slowly going away right now until the field is gone... and then it'll slowly come back with the poles reversed.
and we'll all taste like some nasty fried chicken.

| | | All Societies fail, even temporarily; All Natural Disasters that can occur, will eventually occur...
To Protect Yourself There should always be an Emergency Kit In your Private Safe:
Your WATERPROOF/FIREPROOF private safe should be mounted to your home's foundation via 1 or 2 reasonably long (floor penetration of 12-24 inches or more) concrete anchor screws.
1) At least 1,000 Dollars. (Best if kept in a natural form such as Gold, etc... So 1,000 to 2000 worth of gold or equivalent...)
2) Your Papers (Birth Certificate, SS Card, Citizenship, Deeds, Passport) should be kept in your safe...
3) A Loaded Handgun with the safety ON. (Not your regular concealed carry 9mm, but something Big and Powerful.)
Maybe a rifle if you're that into guns... or paranoid...
4) A Map of Your Area
5) Flashlight (The kind you can recharge by shaking.)
6) 2-way Radios
These items can go a long way in a natural disaster or socioeconomic breakdown... or if you're saving for a camping trip... lol...
Hope that Helps...
