I want to dig into this when I get a chance. It seems a logical extension when you're connected to the internet in some way 24/7.

    Re: Google Home

A friend got one tried the bit they do in the TV commercial where the father is reading to his daughter and the daughter keeps interrupting to make comments or ask questions and the dad asks google to help. It failed even the what does a whale sound like test from the commercial, even Cortana can do that with my laptop/tablet no extra hardware required if I keep her listening (which I've only done when I hurt my hand and had difficulty typing).

My phone will do it when you say "OK Google". You probably have to go into the settings to allow audio responses to be automatic.

From what I've read, Home doesn't have the greatest microphones and speakers. The Echo I think is the superior device. Plus, have the smaller and cheaper dots available to make the whole home aware.

    Re: Google Home

That sounds about right, in one of the early video reviews I saw they claimed the Google Home sounded like a $5 AM radio from the 1970's. Amazon uses a multi-micrphone setup to pickup your voice (and it does it very well), plus they have the mini version which allows you to use your own speakers.
