They say drunk driving is not a game. However, neither is driving. In fact, it's a law in every state that a motor vehicle is not to be used as a toy. So MADD, just ignore the fact that we're driving in a game and focus on drunk driving.
The game lets you, and actually recommends that you take a cab home from the bar. It gives you a choice, and you as an adult can make the decision. If you do choose to drive drunk, well... you often end up in police chases or dead.
Oh, and this is coming from the same people who actually helped fund a
real car that simulates drunk driving for people to test. So it's okay to drive a real car that simulates the effects versus a video game?

"Chrysler has found a safe way to demonstrate this dangerous situation to teen drivers with the Neon Drunk Driving Simulator, a specially equipped Dodge/Plymouth Neon that mimics the effects of driving after drinking alcohol.
Sponsored by Chrysler Corporation, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the U.S. Department of Transportation, the National Association of Broadcasters and local Chrysler Corporation dealers, the Neon Drunk Driving Simulator will travel to more than 250 schools. The vehicle has made more than 2,100 public appearances in more than 200 cities since the program began in 1988. To date, over 750,000 people have tried the Simulator. |
We can also drive drunk in video games simply by getting ourselves drunk first, then trying to drive in the game.
The original founder of MADD quit because her purpose for MADD was to educate the public about drunk driving and effects. Today, MADD is all about anti-alcohol and preventing drinking in the first place. The founder did not agree with this and left.

| MADD founder Candy Lightner broke ties with the group in the 1980s. In 2002, she told the Washington Times: "[MADD] has become far more neo-prohibitionist than I had ever wanted or envisioned ... I didn't start MADD to deal with alcohol. I started MADD to deal with the issue of drunk driving." |
Rockstar's response:

| 'We have a great deal of respect for MADD's mission, but we believe the mature audience for "Grand Theft Auto IV" is more than sophisticated enough to understand the game's content.' |
Personally, I disagree with MADD. I've been to a MADD meeting before. It wasn't about the fact that I was caught drinking and driving. It was basically about alcohol, the effects of it, and telling us to stop drinking altogether. It was more like an AA meeting than what you'd expect MADD to be. In fact, there wasn't even one mom there. It was a couple policemen and a dad. MEH!
