There's been
rumors the past few days about an XBox360 unit coming out that is equipped with an HD-DVD drive that is being manufactured in conjunction with Toshiba. Well, apparently
Toshiba knows nothing about this white whale and has said the following on the topic:
Quote:
"It's got nothing to do with us," said a spokesperson to gadget site Stuff. "But we know Microsoft doesn't want to include the HD DVD so as not to limit the user's experience."
Microsoft currently sells the HD DVD player as a separate peripheral for the Xbox 360, and offers various deals for users who want to upgrade their console to a hi-definition movie player.

That kind of sucks because an HD-DVD equipped X360 would be a nice touch going into this holiday season. Especially with (I hope!) 1080p monitors becoming more affordable. But hell, Tosh could just be playing dumb with us so as to not spoil the surprise MS was trying to keep close to their vest.
We'll see soon enough.
