Dells can now ship with Ubuntu

Seems like Ubuntu is getting more press than usual! This is the second mention of using Ubuntu I've seen in the day. Now I have never tried running Ubuntu, or any Linux system but I find that when I get myself another harddrive Im defiantly trying it out. Its good that you can get another OS for a PC from a manufacturer besides Windows, always love competition.

Wine can be a PITA though... even I struggled to get it running, and I have a decent amount of experiance with Linux (and Linux Based) Operating systems.

oh, I agree. I'm just not sure even Ubuntu is ready for public consumption without some very LOUD warnings on the Dell website.

yeah really! Ubuntu is a pretty cool OS. Linux is slowly becoming an OS that normal computer users ..well, can use. How much does it cost to get the OS on their computers?

Uh.... 0? Its open source

Its getting closer, but if people still have problems with Windoze (even with XP or Vista) then Linux would confound them. Until they get a unified package format (the exe or bat of the Windoze world) they will still be a tough OS to learn.

:P of course it's open source.. but you think Dell is just going to install it for free? its part of some package deal i'm sure. Open source will get bigger and bigger as time goes on (as long as it stays pretty standardized), but this is a step in the right direction.
