XBox360 Finally Getting Blu-Ray, Due 3rd Qtr

According to this report, Microsoft will be selling a Blu-Ray enabled XBox360 console sometime in the 3rd quarter of 2008.

Earlier reports cited Lite-On as the company with the privilege of building the new console for Microsoft. Lite-On is also currently one of the suppliers of the internal DVD drive fro the XBOX 360.

Ok, well now this sort of screws up my plans on buying a PS3. One major reason I wanted one was for the Blu-Ray player. I really liked my old 360 and the Live platform. Hmmmm...

[Update]: Or maybe the XBox isn't getting a fancy new Blu-Ray drive...

This could simply be Microsoft's PR attempt at stopping anyone from buying the current retail stock of 360's, so don't believe it as gospel. I guess only time will tell...

haha don't get me wrong I love Xbox way more than PS3, but I find it funny they're going to pay Sony to use Blu-Ray!

Makes the people with the old DVD drive xbox feel like shit, ME

. It better cost most, considering I will have to pay for the external version of the drive.

Sweet. Good news. Now if they unlock the ability for game developers to use the Blu-ray disc for content, then the PS3 won't have too much over it in terms of storage.

Surprised they integrating it directly into the console.

Sony doesn't own the blu-ray format

This is good news indeed. Also, it extends the lifespan of the 360 by I would guess another 2 years. I was within a a week or two of getting a ps3 for the blu ray...now I'll just wait and trade up when the time comes.

I really hope they put the Blu-Ray into the XBOX, it would own even more. If it does get one then I'll just wait for that.

I hope that they would also address the red ring of death issue with this as well, I'd buy a 360 in a second if a true revision (blu-ray + rrod + other design improvements) were made.

didn't they already change the heatsink, and then the cpu? did that not solve anything?
