Asus EEE Box, for your desktop, and bonus

Basically a EEE notebook in a desktop case, the EEEBox should retail around 200-300 bucks (without monitor). Same ol' Atom processor, but with a spinning hard drive (weight not so much an issue) and hopefully somewhat configurable.

Bonus: The upcoming EEE Monitor, an all-in-one PC from Asus with a 19-21" screen, for around $500? nice. All-in-ones are generally off-limits for many because of lack of upgrades, but at that price point, it makes more sense.

Watch as everyone follows the low-cost trend Asus keeps setting.

I like most of it...the price, form factor, size, etc...and it makes it much easier when a non-gamer family member asks you which computer should they buy...just point them at a solution like this...

what I don't like about it however is the fact that it makes Epic's asinine rant ring more true...

wow, i ragged out on that post, sorry.

I think PCs are exactly where they should be. Specialized for tasks, not one-size-fits-all. That's why the EEE and clones are a moderate success. That's why Voodoo and Alienware are still doing fine.

This reminds me off a wii on a stand when you look at it on the side. And an apple airport express flipped sideways on a stand from the front. But it still looks nice

like I said above, I like most of it...and it will definitely fit a need in the market of something simple, cheap and useful, that looks good too...I just hate the overall abuse that PCs get and can easily see people taking cheap shots at this for no real reason...

oh people will try to sh!t on it, you can count on that. What you really have to notice is what kind of audience is this going for. My co-worker doesn't use computers at all, just at work, but wants something for his house (for pics, music, internet, etc.) so I might just point him in this direction.

you mean... COMPUTERS?

apple has no ultralight <10" system, they have a middleweight 13". They have the mac mini, true enough, but it's not that similar to the EEE box, it's much more of a regular micro-ATX system like the ones that have been around for years before (see: cappucinnoPC, etc).

Apple does a great job of publicizing things like "ultralight laptop" and "mini desktop", but they're not new categories.
