I wonder what price we will find this device selling for. With the incoming wave of cheaper and cheaper ssd's, we could see the competition between designs driving the price way down.

But how reliable can a 20K drive be? 20K is a lot of revs for a device that has low tolerances...

I'd rather have a 150GB SSD rather than a 150GB Raptor. Granted a 150GB SSD is still extremely expensive.

Yeah, i would think reliability would be an issue. Also, at 20k rpm what if the head crashes... would the platter fly out and behead you?

There are already 15k scsi's. 20k isn't such a stretch. And raptors do still beat ssd's in certain applications.

I know there are 15K SCSI Drives, in fact I've worked with them. But theoretically there is a limit to how fast drives can go before reliability kicks in.

raptors are great for certain things, I like them as a dedicated gaming drive - I like a regular drive for the OS, install all my games and high-load apps (video editing, etc) on a drive that I really want access speed from.

I have a load of 15K drives at my house, I bought them on a blowout. They don't sound any different than a normal drive, they just rip-roar through accesses. The problem is the SCSI interface, which anyone will tell you is expensive to get going in a desktop PC. But they're for my servers, so that didn't matter. 15 or 20K (!) in with an SATA interface is hot
