| | | Sony Has No Plans to Cut PlayStation 3 Price Quote:
Although Microsoft will drop the price of the Xbox 360 to US$299 this weekend, Sony says it has no plans to follow suit with the PS3.
"This year, our strategy is not to sell more quantity for PS3 but to concentrate on profitability," said CFO Nobuyuki Oneda on Friday. "Our plan is not to reduce the price."

: 70 th | | To sum up what Oneda said.
"We don't care about selling a lot of consoles, we just want to take as much money from the suckers that are buying them."
Or
"We believe that for that price the consumer gets a system that works. We think that is an acceptable tradeoff"

| | | PS3 was introduced at a price that was below their production cost... the price they sold to stores... Of course the stores have their own markup, but on a loss-leader like this, it's limited. The current crop of PS3s are pretty much at the break-even price. That article seemed to have omitted that little point. Sony is hoping that by Christmas this year, they'll be making a profit on PS3 consoles. They do make a huge profit on games, accessories, etc.

| | | Most companies in general make their money off of accessories and service contracts. Xbox also had that problem of the price point and cost to them, but they don't have as costly technology as sony does. |

| Yeah the RRoD's are epic fail. Although they should be getting better with the new 65nm Jasper boards, and hopefully eventually fixed with the single-chip system Valhalla motherboard (GPU/CPU on a single die, eliminating any serious problems with the link between the GPU/CPU).
I would like to see the PS3 drop in price though. Sony has a real chance to gaing some market if they put the 80GB PS3 at $400/450 and the 40GB PS3 at $300/350

| | | I honestly like the PS3, I recently had a chance to play on one with a 56in (i think) and hdmi... Its epic and the blueray is sweet...
I just think that the PS3 is designed for a different part of the market than the xBox360 and Wii... The three consoles are very different with very different players (due to the price)...
Personally, When i have played online with an xbox i hated the fact that there were so many little kids... The PS3 you dont have the same douche bag kids..

| | | it's just an inventory clearout, like Sony did with the PS3 model. Sony shouldn't bother responding.
