E308: 80GB Playstation 3 to $399.99

Minutes ago, Sony announced they will be lowering the price to the 80GB Playstation 3 to $399.99 and at the same time sounds like they are phasing out the 40GB Playstation 3.

This is great news to go along with their new Playstation Network Top Gear and movie rental services.

I'm going to presume they're holding the $400 price and now that the 80gb drives are cheaper they can sell them at the 40gb price.
If it's super cheap and easy, I might upgrade my drive, but it's no huge priority since I mostly use the thing to play Blu-rays.

Wait Craig didn't you just say that you were gonna get a 360 just a few threads ago?

Anyways, called this one to a certain extent (although I said that the 40 would hit 300 as well). Woot for more competition (although we still have a way to go to hit the Wii's prices).

EDIT: There should be an asterisk on this thread title. Its not really the 80GB PS3 we know of. They are ditching backwards compatibility again. Why? Because shipping out a software based solution is way too expensive.

Well that sucks about the backwords compatibility...but for people like me who have never owned anything PlayStation related, it has no affect on (I don't buy used games)
