Microsoft vs Google-Yahoo Deal

Quote:
WASHINGTON - Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) sought on Friday to enlist support for its opposition to a new advertising collaboration deal between Google and Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO), two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

One day after the companies announced an agreement allowing Google (NSDQ: GOOG) to sell search ads on Yahoo's Web site, Microsoft contacted advocacy groups that work to influence policy in Washington.

So basically now MS is trying to torpedo the Google/Yahoo partnership. Though they will control a stupid amount of online ads, MS isn't the group that should be tooting about this, guys like Ralph Nader are... Oh that's right, he's too busy running for an office he'll never attain.

why not? they get reamed for bundling an internet application with an OS as a monopoly, they're actually the exact people that know a monopoly when they see one. Plus they have an interest in it.

Ralph Nader has been basically useless for 30+ years. He'll continue to be.

I think it's ridiculous how Microsoft can complain about a monopoly on the industry when they have been a damn monopoly on the industry themselves. Isn't that a double standard?!

No, it takes one to know one sometimes. The problem here is that Microsoft is just acting like an immature child because they couldn't get what they wanted. I foresee microsoft trying to disrupt yahoo operations if things don't go the way they want. Microsoft needs to badly make some moves here. I think this is going to get very aggressive and very messy if Microsoft wants, and pursues this thing.

Well, it's a different case than what they were accused of doing before. They don't have any monopoly in this case, and because of google, they won't have a monopoly (as long as google can compete).
