I use Clusty about 80% of the time then google then ask.com. I like Clusty's categorical view on the left side. if your search is for a general term you can drillit odown and make the search more specific by going into the different categories.

I believe the engineer in question actually penned some of the code, so she is probably allowed to use it in other ways.

All depends on how your contract is worded. A good lesson there. Maintain intellectual rights over your own creations. The best selling Atari 2600 game of all time, Adventure was created by Warren Robinett. He didn't get a penny in residuals for it. Just his base salary for working at Atari, which at the time was about $20,000 a year.

I did a search for "graphic design jobs columbus ohio". no commas and no quotes.

cuil seems to think I either made a typo (google fixes that for you with a query about your spelling), or simply thought my terms yielded too rare a result to find anything.

graphic design jobs columbus ohio - Cuil

google on the other hand did not question my spelling, and the top hit was a craigslist art/media/design jobs (totally reasonable top hit) and the first page was 1 of 10 of 117,000 results (because I suck at searching).

I suck at searching is very true, but cuil sucks first, and hard.
