| New AMD Game Utility May Pose Security Risks Quote:
On Thursday, Advanced Micro Devices tied a new corporate branding campaign,"Fusion," to a beta utility that is designed to speed up AMD-powered PCs. The company warned, however, that the utility could turn off antivirus or other security software without notifying the user.
AMD's new corporate motto is "The Future is Fusion," a desire to "blend our customers' needs, dreams and desires with our unique passion for enabling innovation," according to Nigel Dessau, AMD's chief marketing officer.
...The new corporate slogan was accompanied by a beta "Fusion for Gaming" utility, designed to accelerate both AMD graphics chips and CPUs. The utility includes four features, according to AMD: an auto-tuning feature for the CPU and chipset, as well as the graphics card; a clock multiplier control and calibration tool that adjusts the clock speeds based on temperature and system stability; and a feature to accelerate the hard drive's data accesses by decreasing the seek time.
The current beta utility is 32-bit code; a 64-bit version will come later, AMD said.
