Windows 7 Upgrade half-price pre-order

Let me boil it down for you:

$49 for Home Premium Upgrade (which most of us would want)

$99 for Professional Upgrade (with XP Mode, domain join, auto-backup)

Starts tomorrow (June 26th), but has "limited supplies". No one knows how many.

Remember, this is about 3 months out, so you won't actually get a product til Windows 7 releases. But if you are sure you are going to get one, it will save you about 50%.

if you can get it.

Also, starting tomorrow, HP will offer free upgrades to Windows 7 on all new computers sold.

Windows: Windows 7 Pre-Order Offer

I'm thinking about this one... of course the question I have, what about the whole 32/64 bit thing? It's about time we have a real, workable 64 bit OS.

it's pretty much the same deal as Vista with 64-bit. Although you'll have a lot more driver support this time around. 32-bit will still run fine.

oh:

XP users can't "upgrade", they have to do a full install. This isn't abnormal, as usually you can't 'upgrade' from 2 versions ago, but it still bites.

Can you use the "upgrade" version to do a full install? unknown right now.

I am running Windows XP, can I upgrade to Windows 7?

Microsoft designed Windows 7 Upgrade media for Windows Vista. A customer with Windows XP can purchase Windows 7 Upgrade media but must back up their files, clean install, and then reinstall their applications.
