| | | Valve Says Choice to Make DX10 Vista-Only Hurt PC Gaming Quote: |
"Valve's President Gabe Newell is calling Microsoft's choice to make DirectX 10 Vista-only a 'terrible mistake' that has harmed gaming. His company's latest hardware study shows the strategy has not moved gamers onto Vista. The result is that almost no one is using the newest version of DirectX, and companies are shying away from creating new input devices that support it. Nine months after release, after Christmas, after graduation, and with school mostly back in session, still only 8% of gamers are using it."

| | | I hope they don't and more game devs use OpenGL and have Linux ports. I'm guessing they won't get it together though. |

| | | I hate vista. I might have gotten Halo 2 for pc but you have to have vista and dx10, which I would have gotten a dx10 card. Forget that now.
Way to go Gabe.

| | | Anyone else hear that there could be a XP DX10 patch? Someone was reading into a Crysis review, and delved deep into speculation (by reading between the lines), hinting Crysis would be DX10 ready on XP.
be nice

| | | It would be nice for the DX10 GC buyer who's supporting XP.
I really don't care either way. they showed the side-by-sides of Crysis Dx10/Dx9 screenshots and Hellgate: London, and...look, the differences between the two hardly justify DX10 support. Other than a little bit more flame and slightly sexier specular particles for "atmosphere", the games looked virtually the same (4 months ago, natch).
Team Fortress2 is being developed with DX9 in mind, and even on, what they're calling, "Ideal" specs, the game is going to run awesome on my near 3 year old rig.
I'm looking forward to Crysis whether it's DX9 or patched and ready for DX10 in XP. My card won't support 10 anyway, so it's going to be 9 for the short haul to come.

| | | I think one of the big factors with Vista was the lousy drivers... gaming was slower on Vista, and after promising it'd be SO good for gaming, it left a bad first impression. If it'd lived up to the hype, I bet there would be a lot more people on Vista.
