Pretty sure that judging from statistics and experience from what I've seen, I can say that some can become addicted to it. Pretty sure there have been many people who have died while playing the game, and parents who let their child die because of the game.
Here's a list from google search alone:
kid dies after playing WOW - Google Search
A few of the stories:
Xinhua - English Man Dies From Playing World Of Warcraft - Gaming? Harmful? Child dies as parents play MMOG in Korea - news - play™
There's actually a detox site for people addicted to WOW:
is world of warcraft addictive? - Google Search
Pretty sure southpark made an episode making fun of the fact that people become so addicted to the game. Pretty sure Tyra Banks actually had someone on the show because someone was addicted to the game. Pretty sure it's the only game with that kind of extreme reputation. Sure, all games can become addictive.. but this one game is actually KNOWN for it.
I'm glad you're not addicted. I'm glad you have fun playing it. I am not hating anyone who plays it. But for those who get carried away and play 12 hours or more a day.. is just fucking sad and pathetic.
While you say you're not addicted, it's pretty ignorant to deny or not even mention the fact that it is an addicted game for a lot of people.
So your statement about not playing a game and saying it's addictive is dumb is incorrect. With all the articles and stories, and experience from friends, I have that right.
AGAIN, I'm not fucking bashing the game. So those of you who are getting offended and/or defensive.. please realize this.
Yes, I play Counterstrike 23 hours a week, that's 3 hours a day. You can check my steamID page to confirm. There was a bug in these stats in the earlier versions of Steam which showed 2 weeks combined into one, so for those of you with "proof" of me playing 40+ hours a week, it was actually 2 weeks combined.
