Cybertex loves playing with their D-key!
Ubuntu and Cedega6.0

Just wondering what everyone out there thinks of Cedega and if anyone in particular has run it on Ubuntu and how it is working out for them?

I ran it in Ubuntu for a while, but could never get it working well enough to run the games I wanted. Steam is a no-go certainly, and I could never get the installers for my other games going.

That said, I never really played around with it much, since I do most of my gaming on my windows machine.

I'll see how it does on my fedora c6 machine.

Feisty Fawn out now. Nice desktop... maybe not for games though.

A friend of mine plays counterstrike source in Ubuntu just using regular WINE. The performance is obviously lower than running it natively in Windows. In my experience getting anything to work is too much of a hassle to bother. Dual booting is much easier, but I find myself staying in Windows most of the time with that setup.

Ubuntu is the Linux desktop for noobs. If you don't really have any experience with Linux, Ubuntu is a great choice. Experienced users will look elsewhere.

I disagree. I'm an experienced Linux user and I love Ubuntu because it is simple and easy to use.

You already did, but I'd rather leave it where is stands. I understand what you are saying, but Ubuntu is very easy to use and I think it will accomplish quite a bit for making Linux a viable choice for the average user. I'm also a big fan of Gentoo, I wish I could use portage to download binaries (maybe you can now, I haven't looked into it in quite some time).

Thanks for the input guys.

I know Ubuntu is very much for the intro Linux user when it comes to distros but I don't feel like wasting a crap load of time tweaking everything out just to do something. The days of spending a week trying to get a video card working just right for me are past. Yeah I know defeats the purpose of using Linux but its where I am at.

Just wondering what people thought of the combo. If you have other suggestions of a good distro for use with Cedega let me know. I just don't have alot of time anymore to sift through the 50 new distros that pop up every year.

As long as you pick a popular distro you'll likely find support for Cedega, but I still recommend sticking with Windows for gaming.
