Upgrade to Vista?

I used Vista for around 6 months. While it ran everything great, gaming still wasn't as good as XP. Now the security features and all that mess can be tinkered with or turned off.

Counter-Strike Source did NOT run nearly as well as it does on XP. Especially if you have to alt-tab. If I ever received an IM or something that would minimize the game. When I'd come back I'd get 20-30 fewer frames. Which was frustrating so I would have to restart.

If you can get a copy of Vista for free, or very cheap I would say jump on it anyway. Just wait to upgrade or buy a small spare hard drive for it and try it out.

I made a Norton Ghost Image of my XP install, incase I didn't like Vista I could always just restore it back with all my old settings intact. Which worked out awesome.

I have Vista, I wouldn't say I hate it, but I do certainly greatly dislike it.

I would get the free copy and possible dual boot with XP/Vista. If you don't like it... delete Vista.

You can also create a virtual PC in your PC. I am looking into doing this at the moment so I do not have all the information on this for you as of yet. Maybe someone else knows more about this.

Also I have noticed a fps drop. Prior to Vista in Call of Duty 2 with the same config, I would have a steady 125 fps. I set my max FPS to 125 and it never dropped when on Vista, even in smoke. Whereas after I got Vista, my FPS will drop during intense combat or smoke. Sometimes as much as 30 FPS, but these somewhat random and major jumps in FPS just frustrates me.
