I was just wondering if I need a new copy of Windows when I upgrade my motherboard? And if not, how do I do it? Thx.

You'll need to reinstall Windows. You won't be able to replace the motherboard and plug in the hard drive and boot up like normal.

Not to insult you or anything but...yes you can. (I have an OEM version and i've done it more then once) The only thing you will need to do is re-activate windows which you can do over the internet or the phone depending on which you prefer. The problem comes when you are replacing the hard drive and motherboard.

Not always the case. If your chipset is totally different, or varies from the former, Windows may not boot. Sometimes doing a Repair to Windows may fix the problem. Or you can try Sysprep.

Here is a great FAQ on doing mobo upgrades without reinstalling Windows.
