Building Computer, need input :)

Hai guyz!

Well, I'm finally to the point where I'll really be building a new desktop. Thought I was going to get to back a few months ago, and it just never came together.

CoffeeShark you had recommended a nice setup back in October, which was pretty cost effective with the Geforce 8800... but since it's been almost 5 months since that was priced out and I haven't kept up with hardware, thought I'd ask around again and see what's changed/what'd be the best for my money today?

Probably still go with core2duo if it's still a reasonable choice, but as far as everything else, I'm pretty much stumped, thanks for any advice guys!

Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail you can find this very close to $200 if you shop around. IMHO a Q6600/Q6700 is very nice, but most games today still can't use more than 2 cores. And then, the faster the better. So that's why I like it. Besides, you can always upgrade to a quad core later if you want to. nothing changes but the CPU in this case

and here is an ultra sweet video card for $300

I'm stuck on the MSI crossfire motherboards, with the overclockable Black AMD AM2 5000+, 2-4gb of 800/1066 RAM, 500gb SATA2 hard drive, a 9600 OC video card (or 3870 if you want ATI and future crossfire).

I configured one yesterday, complete with Case, PSU and Vista/XP for 700 bucks. Let me know if you want a sample full build.

you want input? wait until March 11th and buy the new nVidia card. Its cheaper than Ati's top card and is just as good.

BetterOffDead loves playing with their D-key!
If you go with an Nvidia GPU I suggest eVGA or XFX. They are very "system builder" friendly. eVga has a sweet step up program if they happen to release a better card within a short time (you pay the price difference). Both companies will also take back cards that have been overclocked and they even allow you to install third party coolers without voiding any warranties. Asus and most of the others...not so much.

Also, I should note that you may not use this code in your own applications. If you want to reduce a variable by 89, you'll have to find another way to do it.
