Pc to hdtv woes

Long Story Short I put in a relatively inexpensive hd2000 series graphics card to give dvi output capability to a computer and use it on an hdtv. I would have rather used something faster but being that it isnt used for 3d apps or anything too demanding and was rocking about a 350 watt power supply I felt safer this way.

Brought a 30 or so foot DVI to hdmi cable, connected the pc to the television and the tv just sits there being black screen. Graphics controls Act as if the only display connected is the 19 inch monitor to the vga output... and nothing else. Ok so i fiddle with the ati control panel a bit, roll back drivers to a version from sometime last year. Theres an ability in the older version to force detection of a tv set. so I do that and it finally admits that it is connected to a tv, but still yields no picture. Also, presumably to prevent ruining of nice televsions it only lets me have 30 hz refresh rate over the dvi port.... whatever, the least of my concerns. The video card ( I believe ) does not support progressive scan which should be fine as the television supports 720p/i 1080i and 1080 p... shouldnt be a problem.

Of course it works just fine using the vga jack on the tv, vista just looks nowhere near as cool obviously using this method. The only port this tv doesnt have is a dvi input, everything else it has. My whole purpose of the card was so a badass tv can have digital signal from the pc..... well and so that the integrated card could go die in a fire and stop using some of the 1 gig of ram vista so desparately needed. Also threw in an extra gig but thats besides the point

Going to be a pain but now I am deciding, do I return the massive cable thinking theres an off chance the cable could be bad... or does this sound like the tv having some stupid compatibility issue or what ?

If it helps at all this is the tv Bravia

//will be making some calls monday.

You could return the cable and try a DVI to HDMI cable like this .

Its not long enough, but you'll get the picture.

i'm surprised you didn't just blame Vista, everyone else does.

I don't know the solution, fish, I bought a video card for my HTPC because it had HDMI, so I could go hdmi-hdmi on my big screen, and it worked perfectly, I just had to up the resolution.

I hate to ask, but are you sure you've set the TV to the right input setting? I have 9 inputs on mine, sometimes I'll flip to the wrong one and wonder why my DVD isn't showing up, then realize I'm on HDMI #2 not HDMI #1.

I would check exactly what the video card does support.it sounds like the card doesn't support HDMI. the other way would be to go DVI to component cables.

. Knew it wasn't vista's fault as It was more of a output input compatibility symptom than something not working in software, regardless i tried numerous driver versions.

. Yeah this bravia has exactly 9 inputs as well coffee, i tried all three hdmi inputs on the back and switched them around on the remote accordingly, still nothing.

. Before i bought the card i looked @ link

The manual for the sony bravia also had this idiotic statement that went something along the lines of: if connecting a personal computer to your television set please use the PC input port.

Their super spiffy idea of a "pc input port" is the vga jack... which does work but sure as hell isnt the reason i bought an 80 dollar cable to keep digital signal
