Dunno, might just be better off building a cheap quad-core machine with similar specs. But for $650 with the 22" LCD its a good price.

well i'm mainly going to be feeding 2 HTPC's and XBOX360. I'm gonna drop my 1TB drive into it for added storage.

2 things i want to accomplish:

1. Fast seek times and also be able to crunch a few numbers for a consulting project i'm working on. (thinking maybe i should drop another few hundred on a dell rack server with 15k RPM drives)

2. Stream my media over my 802.11n network, so of course i'm going to have to grab a card to accomplish this.

I have 2 rack servers already but they are setup on their own MIS and i don't wanna touch them so i'm just lookin to grab a tower machine that would fit nicely in my IBM rack.

Poweredge tower servers are designed to fit in rack, although they take up like 8U. you can usually get fantastic deals on them as well

I would suggest building a new box... I would use 2 Quad Core Xeons... Probably 8-16GB of ram, a high end raid controller and some normal 7200RPM/16MB Cache SATAII drives...

A high end raid controller ($400+) can make all the difference...

Lol Teck, he is looking at a $650 box and you recommend a $6k box.

Actually the Precision series is a desktop workstation, but I'm looking around and it doesn't seem like the 470's were ever outfitted with more than 2x Xeons.

I don't think its fully bogus, but a bit sketchy nontheless.

As for your rig, I would have to say that is a good server system. Heck that would even make for a nice gaming rig if it had a decent video card
