: 92 nd | | | Zone Alarm and Bitdefender AntiVirus Do these two software programs not place nice together?
First, I had ZA pro installed, then installed BDAV... then I started getting pop-ups to allow access to a srvc.exe or some shit for BDAV (on ZA of course). So I allow it.. then all of a sudden I get True Vector errors, and my computer locks up. So I go into safe mode, and install the Bitdefender first.. then ZA-P. So everything seems to working fine.. but when I try to launch CS, the "Launching Counterstrike: Source" Window just stays there, and nothing happens.. not even a pop up asking me if I want to allow it. It's like both programs are fighting eachother to allow it or something.. which I don't know why.. since bd is an AV... so I uninstalled BD.. and rebooted.. and now CS launches fine..
My guess is that these two programs don't play nice with eachother. Is there any way to configure them so they do? I went to review sites and these guys are at the top of everyone's lists. ZoneAlarm Pro for a firewall, and Bitdefender as an anti-virus. Plus they both have "game mode" options.. which is good for me.
Anyway.. hope you guys can help
Thanks.

 : 92 nd | | | What if it's an Internet Security Suite?
I'm just trying a bunch of programs randomly before I decide to stay with one. So far Zone Alarm's Suite package is the best, although I woke up to some weird errors. I couldn't run any executable file, and when I tried to restart it wouldn't, not even by cold-booting. I had to switch the PSU off and on again to get my system to boot.
Next stop, Kaspersky's Internet Suite.

| good lord, why would you ever install any "suite"? That's all you need, 8 programs running simultaneously to "protect" your computer.
If you're surfing questionable sites, or monkey-clicking everything you see, by all means, go with a good AV and firewall. But if you're playing a game, turn that shit off, or take the time and set up your firewall program to allow all your game executables.
and still turn off your AV while gaming.

To tell you the truth, I don't even browse questionable sites. I guess I'm just being paranoid.
With Zone Alarm, it stopped 31 intrusion attempts in 1 week. Now, I don't know if this is normal... but it got me thinking. Three of these intrusions happened immediately after some douche joined my IRC channel, said something about "Get ready to be packeted." Then bam! Three instant pop-ups.

| | it's definitely useful for stuff like that, but people go overboard and think every ping is a hack attempt. Like I said, use the firewall with all the exceptions in place, but I think you're inviting problems with AV "Suites" and the like.

 : 92 nd | | | Thanks. I'll just use Zone Alarm Pro and AV 8. Then disable AV8 whenever I jump in-game.
What pisses me off though, is that Zone Alarm doesn't recognize AV8 in the Anti-Virus monitoring system.
It's probably no big deal, though.

I had a lot of issues with the old XP machine when I tried to run Threatfire along with AVG 8. Sometimes stuff like that is solvable by accessing the exceptions list and manually setting it up. I just decided to uninstall Threatfire completely, not worth the effort. With Vista I just run AVG 8... doesn't interfere with games, everything's running smoothly. I don't know if I should mess with any other security programs at the moment...

 : 92 nd | | | LOL
I just ran AVG this morning and it found 5 trojans, all sitting in my system32 folder. Winlogon.exe, EXPLORER.EXE and a couple more I can't remember. I ran a scan again and it says my system is "clean".
How the hell did they get in there? lol..
oh and BTW, I'm using my router's firewall... At maximum or medium, I can't run counterstrike or any other game.. only on low. I passed every firewall-test on low, except the "ping" one.. but all my ports appeared to not exist. When running on Maximum, I passed with flying colors.
Only if I could run it on Maximum, and somehow add the programs I wanted. The configuration isn't exactly noob friendly.. mentions lots of stuff I don't know about, such as port forwarding, DMZ host, Static NAT.. lol
There's a custom option, but it gives a pretty big "Caution" saying that if I'm not an expert, I'm better off leaving it alone.
