Fixed Aspect Ratio Scaling - Help Needed

So I recently updated the drivers for my Quadro Fx 570M to Forceware 175.97, using the brand new set on the Lenovo download page. Using the CS:S stress test, these drivers show an improvement of about 20 fps over the old ones, which is nice.

However, the fixed aspect ratio scaling doesn't work with this new set. My laptop has a 15.4" widescreen display with a native res of 1680x1050. In the past I used the scaling option to run Starcraft in 4:3, but with the new drivers, Starcraft doesn't stretch at all. It runs at 640:480 at the upper left corner of the screen, with the rest of the screen blacked out.

I have no problems rolling back the drivers to get the scaling to work again, but I'd like to avoid that. Does anyone know of a solution or workaround for this? I've searched around a bit but can't seem to find anything that addresses this particular scaling issue.

EDIT: I played with CS:S resolutions and 800x600 gets scaled perfectly. The problem seems to be with resolutions below that.

No video gurus out there?

I rolled back to the 156.85 drivers in the meantime. They work fine, no reason to fix something if it's not broken I guess.

From my experience, video scaling on laptops is quirky and different on every card.

I wish I could sit in front of your laptop and look. Sorry I can't be more help.

Yes, there are, but they just don't work on the newer drivers. At least, not for 640x480 resolutions.

Well there's your problem. (joking!)

Is it just the 640x480 resolution that doesn't work, or does scaling not work for all non-native resolutions?

From what I can tell it's just 640x480. I booted up CSS and 800x600 gets scaled fine. I tried reducing it to 640x480 and the game crashed.

What I can do is set a custom resolution in the nvidia control panel, changing the windows res to 640x480. That actually gets scaled and Starcraft runs at 4:3 fullscreen. It seems that games just won't properly scale when using native resolution, and I don't see any easy fix for this. It's a problem within the driver itself.

Changing the resolution all the time is a workaround at least, but I think I'll just stay with the old drivers until I absolutely have to update. Thanks for the replies, let me know if there are any other tricks I can try

Is there a way you can just make starcraft scale larger? I remember dope told me some string of code to add to get bf 2142 to open at a certain resolution.
