| | | Internet So the internet at my parent's house is acting really shitty right now. Is there anyway I can check where the hold up is? I did speedtest.net, and instead of getting the 6.0MBS they are supposed to have, they got 1.0MBS. Will restarting the computer or router fix the problem? |

| i usually reset the router first.
they might just be getting throttled down, too.

| | | ISP's offer 'UPTO xxxxMbps' meaning that you may not really get those speeds... Chances are theres not much you can do...

| | | there is avg on the computer, so what else can i use to check for virus' and spyware?
I usually get 6,000 something though from speedtest.net, and my parents said the speed hasn't been that fast lately. I noticed cause the ping for TF2 was like 262 instead of like 52. I restarted the computer, and unplugged and plugged back in the router power cord, but there wasn't much improvement.
My brother and I have been telling my dad to reformat that computer, and start with a clean install. But, I don't think he can find all his dell resource CD's and drivers. I would tell them to just buy a copy of vista or something, but I heard Dell is weird about that or something of the sort that you need the disks from Dell.
Dude is most certainly not ever going to get another Dell (in the near future). |

| | | Well, what times are you accessing the internet? The load of the isp may have something to do with it too.

| | | i wouldn't reformat the computer for browser speeds.
either something is honking your network connection, or it's throttling due to heavy use.
need a network analyzer over here

| | Ping Plotter Download
grab either the standard version (free, but it bugs you to register), or the link at the bottom of the page for the older freeware version, it'll show you a traceroute and a sampleset of pings, to give you a visual idea of what your connection is doing...

| | | well, it's DSL (don't know if that makes a difference) but I never notice a speed difference no matter what time or if I do, speedtest.net does not show it being slow. I don't have any problems in my apartment, and I have the same internet package. |
