| | | Upconverting dvd players.. I'm looking for a Newer dvd player, preferably a samsung brand to go with my 2653H Samsung HDTV.
Does anyone happen to own a 1080P8? Amazon.com: Samsung DVD-1080P8 1080p Upconverting DVD Player: Electronics
I'm basically looking for some opinions and perhaps a review or 2?
This DVD player is only like $90, and considering current games available I'm beginning to watch alot more TV then play games.
It looks like BestBuy and Walmart have them locally too.
I'm thinking this is a awesome way to go. I will save some doe vs getting a ps3 or a blue-ray player and considering DVD prices dropped by half because of Blue-ray. Should be a good bang for teh buck me thinks!?

: 38 th | | | the only problem with the up converting is, it will not compare to blu ray if thats what your looking for. I had looked into this before with my hdmi tv(whether to get a blu ray or this). plus you can about see the quality difference if you look at a hd channel thats showing a older movie in 1080p.

| | | Won't matter for him since TV is 720p.

| | | I had the same question asked of me. My friend got a 1080p TV and was asking me if an upconverter would make old DVD's play better on the tv than say a PS3 would. Anyone have any idea?

| | | TV stretches automatically to "1080p". Won't see a difference.

| | | So, basically there is no point in getting an upconverter except that they are cheap players?

| | | I don't care enough. I told them not to be cheap. I also told them to go buy a ps3, which would complete their trifecta (360, Wii, PS3).

| now I know with my direct tv receiver I can go from 420,720,1080, and If I switch it from 720 to 1080 I see a big difference. some channels are broadcast in 1080i thats why theres a 1080i club channel.
the 360 will stretch it from 720 to 1080.(with know difference)

| I thought the highest broadcast was 1080i and that the highest DVD quality you can get is 1080p
