: 64 th | | | A..puzzling problem? allright, so a while suffering through the local get together outside, with the terrible spanish hip hop, i loaded up counter strike source. Loaded up the settings i desired, 1680x1050, with high settings and no AA. I connect to the cs_assualt server hosted by straferight, and bam. im getting 40-70 fps.
On CS:S
i get the same in TF2..
My computer specs are in my sig.
But seriously, a 4850 is running this badly? I dont think i could possible be bottle necked this much!
Aznsharpshooter had just recent installed a sapphire 4850, and hes running CS:S at 100 fps all maxed and shit, though on a slightly lower resolution, while sporting a quadcore.
So, to illustrate how.. i don't really know how i feel right now, maybe puzzled? I was running CS:S at 30-50 fps on mid range resolution with my old integrated graphics.
Any ideas on what's going on? I thought these GPU's were supposed to be good.. oh shit.. i said it..
-Jim

| | | The Source engine is highly dependant upon the CPU. That alone probably explains the difference.

| | Source is a CPU-bound game.
This explains why, with my 8800 GTS, I get 275 FPS in 640x480 with the lowest settings... and 275 FPS in 1680x1050 with 16xCSAA and 16xAF. This also explains why Hunter has about the same exact results with his GTX 280, despite other games gaining a lot.
If you play other games, you should be able to benchmark them and notice much greater gains.
So, if you want better performance out of Source-based games, think about upgrading that CPU of yours.

| | | I have the exact same problem with my FX-55/HD3850 combo...i run CSS all high 1600x1200 2xaa 16xaf and get 30-60fps online, BUT when i run Call of Duty 4 at 1600x1200 almost all max, i still get 40+ avg on that new of a game, and im guessing your 4800+ games about the same as my FX-55 on CSS? correct me if i am mistaken...

| | | Yep... Same deal... like I said before, your FX-55 is a great CPU, but time marches on and the latest CPUs... even ones clocked slower... will leave the older ones in the dust. It's all about efficiency now.

| Well don't upgrade just yet, since Nehalem is just around the corner.
