| | | Yeah, pretty good if you're tryin to buy an AM2 platform mobo but arent sporting the cash for a phenom.
It's a shame AMD can't do much but slash prices, God willing something will happen before Nehalem's launch to save advanced micro... besides revenue from ATi

| | | There's a lot going on with AMD/ATI, from hope due to Nvidia's problems, plus the 4870 x2 being the new top card, and that a 4850 x2 might beat out 2x 260gtx's at $140 less.
AMD is said to be spinning off its manufacturing business, or at least partnering. That will ease that cost. Basically, AMD would design the CPU, and someone else would build it.
It will be interesting.

| As much as I hate intel, being a brand traitor myself, I have to say that the c2d will pay off for you if you can manage it.... those chips just dont freakin play fair against what amd is currently offering for gaming systems

: 70 th | | | Personally I would go with this minor jump for now and save up a large amount of money ($500 min) to get a Nehalem system.

| | | i7 uses a new socket, right? The mobo manufacturers must hate Intel with a passion.. I recall reading somewhere that it's not compatible with LGA775.
if so, I'm glad I never bothered to upgrade.. i7 looks really tempting though

| It is a new Socket. LGA1366 is gonna be the standard for the mainstream and most performance CPUs. Its physically larger, and is better suited (the board is) for large heatsink/fan combos (i.e. the Zalman 77/9700 series)
