I don't know of any good free one's online but I borrowed a calibration tool from my cuz. This tool is ran off a blu ray disc but that thing worked wonders on my tv. It's not free but not expensive ($17) I don't remember the name right now so i'll post with an update if anybody is intersted. And of course you need a blu ray player I just used bluray drive in my computer. It also works with the ps3

Like Denny said, the THX calibration tool is excellent. I've used that thing on every TV in the house.

There's also a video calibration suite included in Windows Media Center. It somewhere in the TV setup section I believe. It's a series of videos designed to help you adjust contrast, brightness, centering, and such.

Your Mac should have a built-in color calibration tool. It's probably the best one I've ever used (aside from the actual hardware calibrators). You should be able to hook an external monitor up to your Mac, but I'm not sure if the MacBook Air still has the port for it (I'd imagine it does). On all the Mac laptops I have, you plug the LCD cable into another cable that plugs into a specific port on the Mac. I recommend using this method if you can.

ya but since its not the machine i'm using on the monitor, won't that skew the results if I use the Air?

You can export the color profile and use it with Windows.

You get anywhere with this, Craig? Did you figure it out? I can take screenshots and maybe provide more information if it would help.

You don't have to use it; I just found it to be highly accurate when compared to real hardware calibrators.
