Cleaning Tips

I need some cleaning tips for my laptop. I'm a complete noob, besides occasionally whipping a little smudge off here and there.

Is it ok to use the compressed air while the computer is running?
Is there a good way to clean the keys?
Is there a good way to clean the screen without damaging it?
etc...

soak everything in a bleach-water mixture, then hang it out on a line to dry

But srsly, from my own non-professional experience, using compressed air should be okay to use while running, as long as you don't disrupt the airflow of the fans for too long. For the screen, the best thing to do is to use a cloth, like microfiber, that son't leave fibers, or cause too much static, and a cleaning solution without alcohol, like the blue gel stuff, so you don't damage the lining of the lcd.

Cleaning the keys is alot harder, try a vacuum with a brush atachment, or if you feel daring, or if it is possible, pop those babys off and do it up right! but make sure you put them back in the correct position lol

This is common sense, but if you use canned air, just make sure not to shake/tilt it. Or your shit will get fr0zted.

When I clean customer laptops, I usually wipe down the outside with alcohol or a multipurpose cleaner thats safe on plastics.

And I wash behind my ears.

Apparently laptops overclock better when you spray compressed air upside down into the vents.

screen should be cleaned with a specific LCD-cleaning solution with a soft cloth.

you can use compressed air anytime, but be careful not to get it too close, as it will form condensation. best done when turned off.

anything can be used on other surfaces, I usually just use the same LCD cleaner.

Compressed air aimed at a spinning hard drive is like a written invitation for disaster.

yeah, compressed air can find any opening no matter how small... and spinning at that speed... one disturbance...
