: 13 th | | | EA: Used Game Sales Are Unfair I am not sure if this is old news but according to this article, EA is saying that used game retailers such as Gamestop are digging into their sales by allowing customers to re-purchase older games instead of just buying a new one. EA has brought an interesting argument to the table...What do you guy's think of this statement by EA ?

| | | I disagree with the premise. "Doesn't wear out?" I disagree.
First, the games DO wear out. YOU get tired of playing it, and you won't play it more than 3 or 4 times. Also, the technology wears out - in 10 years, the game won't be worth anything.
Second, when have you ever sold a used game for the same exact amount you paid? Never. you're lucky to get 40%.
But, it doesn't surprise me they're looking into this

I also agree with both vega & coffee I don't even take my games to gamestop anyways because once you have open the the "seal" ( plastic covering) of a $60 game you will be lucky to get half back on a same day trade-in. Oh and please EA, the games Do wear out how about you guys trying playing your own games over and over after development. Even when a newer version of the game comes out keep playing the older one and see if it doesn't wear out.

As Vega mentioned, retailers pay you about 40% or less of a game's original retail value, a game which they resell again for a nice profit, from which the game maker gets none.
They don't care much if the game if the game is pretty old, but if the game is fairly recent it digs into their profits. Few people keep their old games for long, if you purchase a game for a kid or are someone with LOTS of free time to play games you can beat a game in two weeks or less.
After which, if the game doesn't offer something new such as multiple hidden power ups or multiple endings it just doesn't appeal to them anymore.
EA and other game manufacturers have brought the issue of the sale of used games before.

| | | I bought games from pawn-shops long before you could buy used games at normal retailers. Same thing with movies/music.
Nothing new to this :P
EA is stupid.

In a sense, yes. But they are being stupid by trying to get stores to stop selling used games alltogether.
They can't stop it, if retail stores stopped selling used games, these games will simply find another way into the market (eBay, pawn shops, auctions, etc.) which have been around for a long time and it will still be the same.

it's like ford saying used car lots are digging into their profits because people are buying a used ford instead of new one.
most ea games suck lately, so they end up in the bargain bin anyway.

| | | I'm never selling another game at GameStop ever agen. I just buy them used, and if you want, you can return the used game after a week, for a full cash refund. I did that last week with Assasins Creed, I had no time to play it, so I returned it and got me 25 bucks back!
Or you could sell on Craigslist lol
