I've had a Radeon 9000 before and low end GeForce4 cards will beat it most of the time, simply becaues Radeon 9000 was out so much earlier than GeForce4's were. However, rather than buying a Radeon 9000, look for a Radeon 9200 PCI. It will cost you maybe 10 dollars more and fully DX9 compatible and it will definately outperform the GeForce4. |

From the website:
PNY Verto Geforce 4 MX440 Overall Conclusion...
Sadly for this card using the Nvidia Geforce 4 MX engine has been overwhelmed by the newer ATI R9000 family. The Geforce 4 MX engine perhaps recently was the current choice in this price bracket but times change and competitiveness always brings out something better. There has been much speculation on a newer engine to be released but until that time the Nvidia low cost solution from PNY sadly fails in the current climate.
and this reviews the 9000 pro but the 9000 isn't that far behind it in performance.

The 9000 has a better gpu and it out performs the geforce4 mx 440. The mx series are just revamped geforce 2. They have no relation to geforce 4's in achitecture. A geforce 3 ti 200 will outperform any mx card and its cheapper. Your dealing with PCI cards but that doesn't change the fact that the 9000 is a better gpu.
Geforce 4 cards where realeased before the 9000 so I dont know where your getting your information. Date of release has nothing to do with performance though. Nvidias 5800 was released over six months after the 9700 and 9700 still kicks its ass.
