Laptop Screens + Gaming = Gamer hell?

I hear the refresh rates on laptop screens are quite slow (under 100 khz) and are not suited for gaming? Will it make a big difference, should I go desktop? K, thanks in advance.

While I can't speak for other people I notice a definate difference in refresh rates between my desktop monitor and my LCD screen on my sager. Because of the LCD's native resolution I don't get crisp graphics. I need to set the games to either 800x600 or 1600x1200.

What I do to resolve the problem is hook up an external Desktop monitor when I want to do some serious gaming (note, I also connect a mouse, keyboard, and speakers. So it acts like a desktop in a sense).

So to answer your question... YES it makes a big difference (especially for first person shooters). Are Sagers suited for gaming? My answer is yes, especially the new models coming in july/aug.

My 17" CRT operates at 60 Hz, and I can't tell the difference when I'm using my GF's LCD at 50 Hz...

Playing a lot of first person shooters, I at first noticed a difference between my Sager LCD and my desktop monitor. But after a week I got so used to it that it didn't matter anymore. And besides, the crispness of the UXGA Wide Angled LCD makes up for it.

According to the LCD specs, the 8887 does have a slower response rate than the 5670 series (50ms-rise and fall IIRC). This is confirmed by a few people that have reported ghosting effects. The respone rate of the 5670 is 30ms I believe and as far as I can tell from playing FPS I have not noticed any such effects. Some people notice these effects more than others so your mileage may vary.
