| | | What video card should I buy? I do not know where the right place to put this is so I figured gaming would be the best guess. But hi everyone, I am going to be buying a new video card soon and have been told by many people to get the NVidia GeForce 6800 GT OC which can be seen here and here or the ATI Radeon 9800 XT which can be seen here.
So, the
NVidia GeForce 6800 GT OC
or the
ATI Radeon 9800 XT
Any help given would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

| | | Well, they are rather different cards. I wouldn't really even put them in the same class, as the 6800 is a $400 card, and is of the current generation. The 9800 is of the older generation of videocards, which doesn't necessarily make it a bad card, its just a little cheaper, older, and moderatly slower. Two cards that would be more similiar, and two that many people choose between would be the x800 and the 6800 gt, as they are direct competitors of the current generation.
If you have the money, by all means get the 6800gt over the 9800xt. I would say to get the 6600gt however, as it offers an extremely good value, and can be had for not too far over $200. I'm not trying to start a fight, or question your knowledge about videocards, but based on the wording of your question, I think you would be best served to save a few $ and go with the 6600gt.
And btw, welcome to the forums

| | | NVidia GeForce 6800 GT OC sounds really great, I think it would last in a long run. If you are getting the ATI 9800 just invest the spare cash into other components in your PC.

| | For AGP, the choice that I am making is nVidia 5950Ultra, but also the 6800GT is very good. The 6800GT is the better bet, as the 5950 is very expensive, but it's cooling (I own one, so trust me here pls) is awesome. The cooling is completely incased, but because of this, you loose 1 (maybe 2) PCI slots because it is so massive with the incased cooling and heatsink.
