Gaming ---> Headphones or Speakers?

Hey Everyone

When it comes to gaming i just love hearing the madness through some speakers (more importantly my old but still kickin 4.1 system) and i was wondering what everyone else uses ---> Speakers or headphones?.

P.S. Anyone know anygood Headphones (for listening to music, movies, or gaming) for less than $100 Canadian... Yeah I'm a Canuck and proud of it!

Thanks

I perfer headphones. For me i can distinguish the direction a sound comes from better when my ears are isolated from each other. Also at LAN parties a lot of times the only allow headphones, at least the ones I've been to have required that. Just gotten use to it after that.

I am currently using the Studio Monitor Series DJ Headphones
MDR-V500DJ but the annoying thing about them is that after about 2-3 hours they really start hurting my ears!

anyone know any good headphones to buy?

From a physics and perceptual standpoint, headphones do offer better sound localization and sound attenuation. However, having one's Altec subwoofer mounted directly onto one's chair with the satelite speakers mounted directly to either side of one's head are also cause for bragging rights in one's dorm. (ahem)
As for recommended cans, try http://headroom.headphone.com/layout.php?topicID=2
to get an idea of what class of cans you want and what you are willing to shell out, then try ebay. I got my Sennheiser 580s (retail $200) for about $80 and they are positively orgasmic.
Cheers

And to add to my previous post, the Senn580s are full circumaural cans with velour ear pads. So if you have sensitive ears, these are a dream. They are, however, not "noise cancelling" so if you play too loud, others in proximity may hear you a little. On the plus side, "open cans" such as these allow more resonance and better acoustics. Additionally, open cans allow you to hear teamates yell warnings during LAN parties so you don't get fragged around the corner.
Hope this helps

Bose companion 2.1 system for $ 250 Quality of sound clearly beats all other systems even up to 600 buckos.
